Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn tonight @ The Fold in Bootleg Theater, Hollywood, California:
I will venture into dark and drunken streets of the Silverlake district of L.A. tonight to see a rare live performance of Mirah at the Bootleg Theater. Im taking my camera and my pencil and plan on producing both a video for YouTube and a review for this forum. I love my camera and my pencil because sometimes they are a great excuse to get out of my comfort zone and do something I might not normally do if I didnt have a camera or a pencil in my hand.
I innocently stumbled upon the music of Mirah one dark December morning a little over four years ago. She lives in San Francisco or a small town in Washington. No one seems to know for sure. It doesnt really matter. In 2006 Mirah had just released new album on K Records called "joyride: remixes." My favorite song is "La Familia."
Mirah has a new album called "(a)spera." Im sorry to report its been really hard to find a copy. I read that "(a)spera" is a departure for her - something different. Mirah works solo a lot; perhaps tonight will be with a band.
I hope this doesnt sound like a gross generalization, but Mirahs small and adoring worldwide audience is made up mostly of young women (she is openly gay), so Im a little apprehensive that my presence there tonight will not go unnoticed. Ill willing to wager whatever amount you want to wager that there won t be very many tall bi-speckled men with grey mustaches and an annoying touch of gout attending Mirahs show tonight.
And its been raining.
I hope it doesnt rain tonight.
Someone stole my umbrella and used it in the commission of a crime. Police tell me I cant get it back until after the trial. They dont know when the trial will be. In the meantime I just sleep a lot, woolgather, and listen to the sound of the rain.

FINAL NOTE FROM THE MAN HIMSELF:
'Dance Me To The End Of Love' ... it's curious how songs begin because the origin of the song, every song, has a kind of grain or seed that somebody hands you or the world hands you and that's why the process is so mysterious about writing a song. But that came from just hearing or reading or knowing that in the death camps, beside the crematoria, in certain of the death camps, a string quartet was pressed into performance while this horror was going on, those were the people whose fate was this horror also. And they would be playing classical music while their fellow prisoners were being killed and burnt. So, that music, "Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin," meaning the beauty there of being the consummation of life, the end of this existence and of the passionate element in that consummation. But, it is the same language that we use for surrender to the beloved, so that the song -- it's not important that anybody knows the genesis of it, because if the language comes from that passionate resource, it will be able to embrace all passionate activity.
